The Rashi Difference: Daily Hot & Healthy Lunch Coming to Rashi

by | Mar 7, 2025 | Middle School, Community, Lower School, The Rashi Difference

We made it through February! Our students have spent the first couple months of 2025 delving into our integrated curriculum and blowing us all away with their dedication to their academic interests. In January, the Grade 3 STEAM fair focused on U.N. Sustainable Development Goal #11: accessibility and equity for all in public spaces. The class heard from members of the Greater Boston community about various physical impairments, and how they may impact one’s ability to participate in daily life. With this information, and with the guidance of their lead teachers and our Kol-lab STEAM educators, student pairs hypothesized, tested, and built prototypes for creative solutions to help build equity and accessibility in activities and spaces they enjoy, such as soccer matches, the arcade, or while swimming!

In addition to updating you on our students’ pursuits, we want to share two pieces of exciting Rashi news with you! First, there are many wonderful enhancements coming to Rashi next fall, and we are thrilled to share the tastiest one with you: the inclusion of a hot and healthy lunch made in-house at Rashi each and every day!

Included in your tuition, and in partnership with our new outsourced food vendor, CulinArt, children will be choosing a kosher-style meal on a daily basis that includes a variety of choices, such as a hot entree option, sandwich of the day, and salad bar (Example Weekly Menu).

Rashi students will be dining in our remodeled communal dining space, with construction planned for summer 2025. Both the Kol-lab: Rashi’s Innovation Lab and the communal dining space will have their own dedicated space now. The Kol-lab will enjoy new lighting, increased electrical capacity, and furniture that will provide our STEAM educators with increased flexibility to make the best use of their space. Our communal dining space will provide our students a place to enjoy lunch with their classmates and practice those important social emotional skills that come with sharing a meal with others.

The second piece of news we’re excited to share, although it’s no surprise to us, is that Jewish day school alumni feel stronger connections to their Jewish identities. In fact, the 2025 Prizmah report found that Day school alumni maintain “greater participation in Jewish life on campus during their college years.” The Prizmah findings also suggest that Jewish day school education is a strong contributor to building a life grounded in Jewish values through adulthood.

Here at Rashi, we combine the best of all worlds: a rigorous integrated curriculum grounded in Jewish core values with all the attendant benefits you would expect from an independent school.
